Today we're going to talk about the Tan Sau in the 3rd section of the Sil Lim Tau form. This is a throwing Tan Sau and we're going to use it with a standard 4-corner drill. The Throwing Tan Sau (or Flinging Tan Sau) is a variation of Tan Sau that uses forward momentum to deflect an attack with more force rather than just positioning for structure. It's often applied against wider, swinging attacks and can work well when combined with footwork and follow-up strikes. A few key points: Redirection, Not Just Blocking – Instead of just stopping an attack, the throwing motion disperses force while maintaining forward energy. Elbow Drives Forward – Unlike a static Tan Sau, this one has a forward-propelling motion, often shifting the opponent off balance. Works Well in the 4-Corner Drill – Since it adapts to different angles, it helps in deflecting attacks from various directions. ⚡ Want to train these skills on your own?
