EP9 presents: wild betta imbellis, wild betta tank setup, wild betta unboxing, wild betta tank mates, making indian almond leaf tea, acclimating new betta fish, wild betta fish community tank. Finally new Betta Fish was unboxed. I ordered "Wild Betta" also know as "Peaceful Betta" or "Betta Imbellis". Fish was breed in Thailand. Interesting thing about "Wild Betta" is their ability to change colours in a matter of seconds/minutes. If they feel stressed they will completly lose their colours. Colours will only return in case they feel safe and happy. So basically it is like they have ON/OFF switch. Also their health is much better compared to "Betta Splendens" because they were not breed by humans for long and more beautiful fins. Because they are a wild form of Betta they can be more shy and skittish and I definetly noticed that. Although they are called "Peaceful Betta" their character is different from fish to fish. My new Betta was chasing shrimps since his arrival, so after he ate all the shrimplets and killed one adult "Red Cherry Shrimp" I had to take the shrimps out of the tank. I will make a new tank for them. With his two "Endler Guppy" tank mates, well lets say it was ok, but I am also planning to take them out of the tank. Endlers are very playful and although the tank is big it has a shape of a cube and has a small footprint. They are all the time in each others face and when that happens Betta will chase them. So far they are too fast for him but to avoid any accidents I will rehome them. If tank had a bigger footprint I would leave them. He didnt show any interest in " Amano Shrimps" and "Nerite Snail" so they will remain with him in the tank.
