The low price tag of the Bushnell Engage line of rifle scopes ($300 on Midway for this 2.5-10x44mm scope) should preclude any high-end features, and the lenses should produce an ugly image, like looking through a dusty windshield. Nothing could be further from the truth. This scope I've been reviewing feels solid and well polished. Every piece on it is precisely machined with radiused corners, and coated for a lifetime of rugged outdoor use. The 1/4 MOA elevation and windage turrets produce distinct clicks that can be felt easily. When you want to protect them from accidental movement, just press the turrets toward the body and they lock into place. Gone are the days of screwdrivers and coins; to re-zero your scope, simply use your fingers to unscrew the plate at the top of each turret. I personally hope that Bushnell includes this toolless zero reset on every one of their scopes in the future. I've never zeroed a riflescope as quickly as this one. These upscale features are nice, but the glass quality has shocked me the most. The stellar resolution keeps up from edge to edge. Contrast and color vibrancy combine to produce an image that transcends the typical "I'm looking through glass" impression, and moves toward the realm of "I'm looking at targets close up." Combine that clarity with the Deploy Reticle in the second focal plane (SFP), and you have a recipe for accurate ranging and precise shot placement. In several videos I produced in the past, I proclaimed my love for precise milling reticles. This Engage reticle provides MOA precision and a gob-lot of drop and windage compensation. The tests in this video include turret tracking tests, optical resolution and contrast tests, then into the fun practical tests. Once I got the scope zeroed (a matter of a couple of minutes), I shot a box test and then had some serious fun pinging steel silhouette animals at known distances (200m, 300m, 400y, 500m). Using the turrets, reticle, or a combination of both, I had little difficulty knocking down steel targets. The only tricky part was reading mirage for wind changes. The glass is up to the challenge, but at only 10X I sometimes had a tough time seeing which direction it was flowing. I was blessed with a mix of weather conditions, so I got to test the scope in rain, sun, and shifting winds. I can't compliment the engineers at Bushnell enough. They have built a precise, high-quality rifle scope that is a joy to use and feels rugged enough for all kinds of outdoor use from hunting to tactical work.
