Water is the lifeblood of society. Charlotte could reach an unsustainable level of water usage in 50 to 100 years from today. What does land conservation have to do with our water? A lot actually. This presentation will explore the history and source of our region's drinking water and how protecting land is essential to protecting our water. Guest speaker, Rusty Rozzelle, is the Water Quality Program Manager for Mecklenburg County and a descendent of the family who ran Rozzelle’s Ferry across the Catawba River in the 1900s for generations. This ferry was the only operating ferryboat in Mecklenburg County before the Civil War. He is also part of the Catawba-Wateree Water Management Group. Join us for this virtual Zoom presentation and conversation with Rusty. CLC Executive Director Bart Landess and staff Biologist Sean Bloom, with Catawba Lands Conservancy, will share how we are working hard to ensure that our water continues to stay healthy so that our community can as well.
