Mount Donna Buang was a popular ski area during the 1920's and 1930's, due to it's close proximity to Melbourne. In 1935 the mountain boasted several cleared runs, a toboggan slide and a ski jump. This amateur film shows the fun of a day's ski trip from Melbourne to Donna Buang on Sunday 7 July 1935 by members of the Ski Club of Victoria. Recent snowfalls attracted large crowds on that day with the Ski Club of Victoria employing a man to shovel snow back onto the runs as falls, climbing and skier traffic put holes in the snowpack. Newspaper reports from the time note 'extraordinary interest was exhibited by residents of Melbourne in the heavy fall of snow that covered Mount Donna Buang during the weekend. Its comparative nearness to the city tempted some 7,000 people, transported by 1,500 cars, to visit the scene' (The Australasian, 13 July 1935, p.8).
