What a Mario World: Map and Ludwig's Castle

Super Mario Bros. 4: What a Mario World is a full Super Mario World ROM hack that reimagines the original with new visuals, custom music, fresh level design, and a story that pulls it all together. This hack’s for people who grew up with Mario or just love the classics. It leans into exploration, hidden secrets, and themed levels inspired by later Mario games—while still keeping that SMW soul intact. It’s not Kaizo or anything super punishing—it’s all about discovery, creativity, and making the old feel new again. This time around, Star Road isn’t just some post-game detour—it’s a major part of the story. Bowser’s got the Mushroom Kingdom in a chokehold, and our heroes are heading deep into Dinosaur Land, dealing with a new generation of Koopalings and all kinds of new challenges. The footage in this video doesn’t show new levels just yet—it’s mostly the original SMW levels with updated graphics, palettes, and effects. This is our testing ground before we go all out on the full level redesigns. I’m Bryce Carrington, the project lead. I’m handling most of the visual design and overall direction.
