(2 Mar 2026) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ASSOCIATED PRESS Austin, Texas – 2 March 2026 1. Wid of police SUV parked on street near bar 2. SOUNDBITE (English) Nathan Comeaux, witness: ++Editor's note: Comeaux is pronounced CO'-mo++ “And then at about 1:56 I heard about a dozen probably a couple, few dozen shots ring out. Couldn’t really even pinpoint where they were coming from and honestly, we couldn’t comprehend that they were shots. There were probably 15 or 20 people at this food truck and nobody was panicking or screaming or running. People thought maybe it’s fireworks or maybe it’s a motorcycle. Yeah, it wasn’t what I’ve pictured when I’ve seen pictures of mass shootings, like everyone's panicking. So I didn’t panic because I didn’t realize that something bad was happening. And then a few minutes later, the cops pull up, probably around 2.00-2:01, and at that point people realize ok, something happened. This is serious. Let’s get out of this situation. So a lot of people start running.” 3. Law enforcement vehicles, crime scene tape close to bar, “Buford’s” sign 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Nathan Comeaux, witness: “I see cops running everywhere around 2:02-2:03. And at that point I get my camera out to record what’s going on. And then I capture the suspect, walks towards, Buford’s, with his gun pointed at the officers, and the officers fire back, and neutralize the situation.” 5. Law enforcement vehicles, crime scene tape close to bar, “Buford’s” sign 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Nathan Comeaux, witness: “Two things were very scary. First, I left the bar five minutes before he shot up the entrance of the bar, so that was a near miss. And then at the end, the shooter was walking toward where I was and towards where the bar was, where there could have been ten times as much damage if he’d gone back to the bar where hundreds of students were hiding. So I’m just very grateful for the heroic police officers who were able to stop the suspect.” 7. Police SUV parked on street near bar STORYLINE: A gunman wearing clothes with an Iranian flag design and the words “Property of Allah” killed two people and wounded 14 early Sunday at a Texas bar, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The FBI is investigating the shooting, which erupted a day after the U.S. and Israel launched an attack on Iran, as a potential act of terrorism. Police in Austin shot and killed the gunman, who used both a pistol and a rifle to carry out the attack, police said. The shooting happened outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden just before 2 a.m. along Sixth Street, a nightlife destination filled with bars and music clubs and only a few miles (kilometers) from the University of Texas at Austin. Nathan Comeaux told the Associated Press that he had left the bar to get something to eat, and he heard the shots a short time afterwards. "There were probably 15 or 20 people at this food truck and nobody was panicking or screaming or running. People thought maybe it’s fireworks or maybe it’s a motorcycle." Comeaux said he started to record video of the scene when he saw police officers running. "And then I capture the suspect, walks towards, Buford’s, with his gun pointed at the officers, and the officers fire back, and neutralize the situation.” The suspect drove past the bar several times before stopping and shooting from the window of his SUV at people on a patio and in front of the bar, according to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis. He then parked, got out with a rifle and began shooting at people walking along the street before officers rushed to the intersection and shot him, Davis said.
