This film takes us on a very intimate journey and personal interpretation of the Surrealism movement which originated in the 1910s and in which artists such as Dali, Giacometti and Picasso collaborated with the fashion house created by Elsa Schiaparelli. When Texas born Daniel Roseberry took the House in 2019, the stakes were high. How could one deal with the ferocious eyes of the fashion world when stepping into a house with such strong identity. A pretty surreal experience describes Daniel Roseberry to begin with. As daunting as it seems, he considers the project easy because he had nothing to lose. Like the surrealist artists, Roseberry keeps their manifesto alive by tapping into the unconscious, working from a place of creative innocence and using a childlike approach to every collection he designs. If the core of the surrealists’ work was a willingness to challenge imposed values and norms and a search for freedom, Roseberry has found the perfect playground with the manifesto of the House. It gives him freedom and permission to constantly be evolving and taking the House into the future.
