Finally! The time to begin building has arrived and it seems as though it has been a long time coming! This is the first episode of the 18’ sailboat build and begins with the construction of the strongback. This is necessary to assure a symmetrical boat hull with fair lines, hold frames & bulkheads rigidly in position as the longitudinal pieces are installed to the frames together, and install plywood panels which make up the skin of the hull. Just as a house must have a sturdy foundation before it can be built, the strongback makes up the foundation such that a boat hull can be built. I hope you enjoy this video!
