Original Air Date: December 17th, 2008 Mahou no Princess Minky Momo (or Magical Princess Minky Momo) is a quirky compilation of games featuring the world-famous Japanese Actress, Novelist, Presenter, and Comedian, Kuniko Yamada, who has been featured in many programs and works for many companies (Fuji TV, TV Asahi, NTV, Ashippo, Yutaka, NHK Publishing, etc.) and is probably most known for her affiliation with OHTA Production. The game was made in two parts (in late 1988 and late 1992 respectively), each with four full-length games. Europe would get a sort of modified compilation of the two games in 1992 featuring some games from both as well as an original soccer game under the title of "Magical Princess Minky Momo: Remember Dream", but lacks the interesting historical aspects and stories. What historical aspects you may ask? Well, Gigi Yamada for one, is not present in SGP4in1, and she was the main advertising force behind the games. Secondly, part of what made the original games interesting were the supporting characters and parodies. The first game parodies other Sega properties and games while the second game moreso parodies Kuniko's personal life and professional career. Thirdly, Momo would appear in MnPMMRD before he would appear in the first Minky Gigi title (he's the Chair Umpire in the Memory game, who is also still in Europe's "The Adventures of Gigi"). Lastly, these were the first games to primarily feature Gigi. In this game's story (which parodies Nintendo's "Gigi"), Minky Momo is getting ready for a big event and hears someone calling her, to which she leaves the room. When she's gone, Mizrabel, who is jealous of Gigi's nice new dress, flys in and steals it. Gigi chases the witch to her castle, where she meets an old wiseman who tells her she needs to clear three games to get items necessary to challenge the witch. From there, you can enter the first three doors in any order, each one harboring a different game (where you meet other characters from CoI) and finish with the last game. There is also a shop which sells items that can help you with the events. The six games are Memory Cards, a Weka Invaders variant (Koramuzu, which is Quest with a Chase matching system, so no diagonals), a generic board game (or Sugoroku, which is just one of many games inspired by "The Game of Life"), and a generic card game (or Daifugou). They all have several rounds, sets, turns, or stages, and can take a while to complete. Skill games like Tennis and Koramuzu can be completed and enjoyed as well as present a moderate challenge, but games based more on chance like Sugoroku and Daifugou are pretty rigged without the proper items in the main game to assist you. However, as the game can be played with/against a friend, they are interesting if you can find another player. The game features nice colorful graphics and great music (where applicable), especially for such an early Nintendo Famicom game. However, given the game's relative length and the inability to save or resume at any convenient point (as the game must be played in one sitting), the game is not an ideal portable title despite being a pretty good game. This is a video of the game in action. Enjoy.
