This Backroad Adventure on Hwy 77 Brought Back More Than I Expected!

Some roads don’t just take you somewhere. They take you back. On this Alabama backroad adventure along Hwy 77, I didn’t expect the memories to show up so clearly, but they did. As we rolled past a business that once sat abandoned and is now open again, I realized the last time I walked through its doors was over three decades ago, buying tires on the way to Panama City Beach after a flat. Then another flat. Two in one trip. Just down the road, we passed the house where we pulled over all those years ago, stopping beneath a tree that offered shade, patience, and a moment to breathe. That tree is gone now. Only a stump remains. But the memory is still standing. This drive became less about the destination and more about the way places hold onto our stories, even when we think we’ve left them behind. Hwy 77 reminded me that backroads don’t forget. They wait.
