Community Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Healthy facility in Toms River, New Jersey, held its first long coat ceremony this week for its graduate medical education residents. Now a teaching hospital, Community Medical Center (CMC) has launched their program with 27 newly-graduated doctors in internal medicine, emergency medicine, and podiatric medicine and surgery. The transition from the short white coat denoting a medical student to the long coat of a doctor has significant symbolism for physicians. For many of the students, the pandemic prevented traditional graduation or white coat ceremonies at their medical schools, and CMC’s ceremony was a celebration of all of these important events, combined. The event featured Patrick Ahearn, Chief Executive Officer, CMC; Meika Neblett, MD, MS, Chief Medical Officer & Chief Academic Officer, CMC, Nicole Maguire, DO, FACEP, Program Director, Emergency Medicine, CMC; Vinod Nookala, MD, FACFAS, Program Director, Internal Medicine, CMC, and Vincent Migliori, DPM, FACFAS, Program Director, Podiatric Medicine & Surgery, CMC, welcoming the residents to the hospital.
