After noticing some high Tin levels in my coral reef tank I sealed off some rusty parts of my stand. I ran another Triton ICP test and found that Tin was even higher now - and I had some Copper too! Bad news for a reef tank or even a saltwater aquarium without acropora or soft corals! I went looking for potential sources in my tank and found some condensation or water inside my Eheim Jager glass heater. I took it out and ordered two Finnex Titanium heaters to replace it with. These heaters are nearly unbreakable, and supposed to be quite well built from what I could find online. Hopefully they'll stand up to the harsh environment of my sump under my reef aquarium. Let's take a look at these titanium heaters and see how to hook them up to our reef tanks. Spoiler.. you'll need a Ranco controller or similar - I'll be using my Neptune Apex's temperature probe to control these heaters. They are simply on or off - they don't have an internal thermometer or anything like that, so you need to control them with something else. I'll run another Triton ICP test in a couple weeks.. fingers crossed the Cuprisob and replacing this heater does the trick and no more tin or copper in the tank. (Update: it worked!)
