Manufacturer: Leitz, Wetzlar (Germany) Application: Civil Era: 1950s Magnification: 6x Objective Lens Size: 24mm Field of View: 12,1° - 212m at 1000m (72,6°) Specifics: In the 1950s, Daniel Schade, employee of the Leitz company in Wetzlar, developed an inverting system, which led to a miniature prism binocular with a particularly large field of view. The Amplivid includes the combination of surface mirrors, roof prism and large field eyepiece. Nevertheless, the Amplivid could not prove itself and was only built from 1956 to 1963. The weak point of the Amplivid was the high effort it took to maintain it. In the successor model, the Trinovid 6x24, which was built from 1963, an Uppendahl system was then used. However, the Trinovid 6x24 had the same performance as the Amplivid in terms of field of view. Due to the short construction time, the Amplivid binoculars are relatively rare today. Unfortunately, like many binoculars from the 1950s, the Amplivid has a plastic sheating that becomes brittle over time. This then causes the sheathing to partially detach and break off. This model retained most of the sheating, but there was one spot where some of the material had broken away. So I patched the spot with the broken off pieces of the sheating using super glue. It doesn't look so nice and is a bit scarred, but the spot is closed again now and it's holding up very well. I tried to make a list of all the (real) wide-angle binoculars available. Here I have only listed binoculars that have at least a 6x magnification and a field of view of at least 9 degrees. List of Wide Angle Binoculars from 6x and FOV 9° - 157m at 1000m (not complete so far): Manufacturer/Model FOV/1000m FOV/Deg. Kenko/Bresser/Orion 7x32 234 13,4 ZOMZ БПШ8x30M 227 13 Tasco Mod.
