"Dhrupad is an ancient form of Indian Classical Music tracing its origin back to the Sama Veda. It is the oldest surviving form of Hindustani/North Indian classical music. "Dhrupad" is an amalgamation of two Sanskrit words "Dhruva" meaning permanent and "Pada" meaning verse. The theories of Dhrupad can be found in many ancient texts such as the 'Natyashastra', 'Bhagavat Purana' etc. The theme often ranges from religious, spiritual, heroic, thoughtful, virtuous etc. Swami Haridas, Surdas, Tansen, Baiju Bawra etc have been associated with the tradition of Dhrupad.
