Ned Rorem (1923–2022) — Come, Pure Hearts (1973) for voices and organ Harvard University Choir; Murray Forbes Somerville, director; Carson Cooman, organ Published by Boosey & Hawkes recorded May 2003; Methuen Memorial Music Hall, Methuen, Massachusetts (for ASV Records) Original Latin text attributed to Adam de Saint-Victor (ca. 1100–1146); English translation by Robert Campbell (1814–1868) One of America’s best-known composers, Ned Rorem (1923–2022) was born in Indiana and educated at the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, the Curtis Institute, and the Juilliard School. During his career as a composer, he wrote in every musical genre and fulfilled hundreds of commissions for major musical ensembles and performers around the world. He received the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Music for his orchestral suite “Air Music.” Rorem taught composition at a number of institutions including extended tenures at the Curtis Institute and the Manhattan School of Music. He is also known for his prose writing, beginning with the 1966 publication of “The Paris Diary of Ned Rorem.” From 2000–03, Rorem was the President of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
