The crackdown in the USSR following the 1948 Resolution of the InformbIro brought a relaxation of the revolutionary dictatorship. From a teacher and role model, Stalin became an enemy overnight, and the USSR, the country whose model the new Yugoslavia was built after, became its main opponent. In such a situation, Tito made far-reaching moves. Yugoslavia began a policy of opening to the West. The Western powers accepted the escaped communist country and began sending it economic and military aid, as well as food assistance. Then it arrived in the bundles that were dropped from planes—inside, along with soap, cheese, instant coffee, nylon windbreakers, socks-pantyhose, hygiene supplies, and other rations, there was always a package of powdered eggs. Since the U.S. president at the time was Harry S. Truman, the people adopted the name “Truman’s eggs.”
