In this video, I introduce the Spectrum View RF analysis capabilities on the Tektronix 4/5/6 Series MSO, review how it differs from a traditional oscilloscope FFT, and show how its time-correlated frequency- and time-domain views offer deep insight into a spread spectrum clock's behavior that would otherwise be incredibly difficult to isolate. 0:00 Introduction 0:37 What is Spectrum View? 1:26 Setting up Spectrum View on the MSO68B 2:49 Spectrum View vs. Traditional FFT (FFT Setup & Trade-offs) 5:36 See Time-Varying Behavior with Spectrum Time 6:33 RF vs. Time Waveforms (Now We're Cooking with Kerosene) 7:44 Setting up a Timeout Trigger on an RF vs. Time Waveform (Say What?!) 8:29 Spectrum View Saves the Day! (Capturing the Elusive Behavior) Spread spectrum clocking techniques can be used for a variety of purposes, like spreading the radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by a clock in an embedded system across a wider bandwidth while still meeting the timing requirements of the circuit. Spectrum View, included Free on the 4/5/6 Series MSO, allows electrical engineers to more easily characterize, validate, and debug systems with analog, digital and RF components. Behind every FlexChannel, in addition to the usual time domain signal path, there is a 2nd signal path with a Digital Down Converter (DDC) for RF analysis that enables many advantages over a conventional FFT and other RF solutions. Spectrum View: *Enables signals to be viewed in both the time and frequency domains simultaneously, with independent controls to optimize these displays, on every channel *Gives you full control of the RF setup with simple-to-use, familiar spectrum analyzer controls to set the Center Frequency, Span and Resolution Bandwidth (RBW) *Provides automatic and manual markers *Allows faster update rates of the spectrum display *Significantly improves the achievable frequency resolution in the frequency domain *And, perhaps most importantly, It gives you precise time correlation between frequency and time domain events Spectrum View is included on all 4/5/6 Series MSO running firmware version 1.14 or later. Option 4/5/6-RFVT must be enabled for RF vs Time Traces. For more information: https://www.tek.com/document/applicat... https://www.tek.com/oscilloscope/6-se...
