SPOTIFY: https://spoti.fi/3bgp699 As always, there is a lot to say, so let's do this. I had even more songs at first, but we're not using Steve's gentle technique so this riff challenge became VERY difficult stamina-wise. I still think this is a very solid line-up with about 35 different songs. Unlike the Opeth riff challenge, there aren't any recurring songs in this one. Why? Well, a lot of Maiden songs have the same structure with similar riffs. We gallop on 7, slide to 3, to 5, back to 7. Some songs contain full chords, some songs contain open E riffs, and most Maiden songs start with a Fear of the Dark-esque soft bass intro. The older albums were quite different, and yet it is Somewhere in Time that won the "most riffs" award in this video. And one of the riffs I ended up not using, was also from that album.. I can tell you all about the changes I made, but I feel like that ruins the mood a bit. The Clairvoyant riff shouldn't be played up around the 11th fret, but it was the only way for me to include it so that we could transition to Fear of the Dark smoothly. I also cut certain songs like Paschendale and Ghost of the Navigator short. Well, I had to! A lot of Iron Maiden songs have riffs that start before the main beat of 1. A normal 4/4 riff can't transition into Number of the Beast unless you remove a note. Otherwise, it will sound a bit like 9/8 + 4/4. And we don't want that. We want a smooth video. This is a great way for me to not only discover new songs, but also show people that most bands have great riffs on every album, not just the classics. I'm sure a lot of people gave up on Maiden after listening to Senjutsu. Let's be honest, the quality is different, and Bruce sounds slightly less powerful. And yet, I used 2 riffs from that album. I almost did the Parchment as well, but couldn't fit it in. Some important information that nobody is going to read.
