2001 BMW M3 E46 GT V8 Grand-Am - Incredible 4.9L S62 Sound on Wet Spa 2024!

One of only 2 V8-powered PTG E46 M3's ever made, the famous chassis no. 004. Having the opportunity to build up E46 M3's for the Grand-Am series, PTG realized that any BMW production engine would be allowed to be used for their cars. Opting to go with the more powerful 4.9L S62 from the E39 M5, over the smaller straight-6 the M3 came with, they created quite the monster. Despite quickly getting heavily nerfed by the organizers with a 90hp restrictor and a 100lb added weight-penalty, the car was still highly competitive, scoring multiple class-victories and coming second in the overall championship. In its restricted form, the car continued to race through the 2003 season before it was sold and raced locally for a while. In 2012 the car was reaquired by PTG and restored and another 12 years after that I was fortunate enough to see it in action at the very wet and heavily interrupted Spa Classic 2024.
