Starting at the compressor outlet, we can see in one of two sight glasses the hot gas exiting the compressor and entering the condenser. In the lower sight glass, we can see the subcooled liquid refrigerant leaving the condenser. The TU-810 is equipped with an air-cooled condenser that has cooper tubing and aluminum fins. Continuing on, the liquid refrigerant leaves the condenser and goes to the moisture indicating liquid line sight glass. The open design of the TU-800 series trainers makes it easier to visually follow the refrigeration cycle and easy to locate all the system components. This educational HVAC/R trainer comes equipped with an electronic expansion valve metering device that regulates the flow of refrigerant which can be seen in the sight glass. The EEV pressure transducer and thermal sensing bulb are installed on the vapor line. Thanks to the open design, it can be easily located. Both the pressure transducers and the thermal sensing bulb are connected to the EEV controller. Continuing the refrigeration cycle, we can see the liquid refrigerant leaving the EEV and the superheated vapor leaving the evaporator. Like the condenser, the evaporator has copper tubing and aluminum fins. The superheated vapor then enters the compressor completing the refrigeration cycle. The TU-810 is equipped with fittings to monitor the system amperage or to test for voltage. It also has an EEV superheat display screen. The controller is mounted in the center of the unit and is connected to all the components. The air flow of both the evaporator and the condenser fans can be adjusted to simulate low airflow, variations in load, or obstructed or dirty coils.
