Sweet Spot - Body mass index (BMI) The liver - an organ only found in vertebrates which detoxifies various metabolites, synthesizes proteins and produces biochemicals necessary for digestion and growth. Its other roles in metabolism include the regulation of glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells and the production of hormones. Bile, required for the digestion of food, is secreted by the liver into passages that carry bile toward the hepatic duct (carrying bile to and from the gallbladder) to form the common bile duct, which opens into the intestine. Those affected vary in the amount of lactose they can tolerate before symptoms develop. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, gas, and nausea. These symptoms typically start thirty minutes to two hours after eating or drinking milk-based food. Their severity typically depends on the amount a person eats or drinks. Lactose intolerance does not cause damage to the gastrointestinal tract. Lactose intolerance lack of the enzyme lactase in the small intestines to break lactose down into glucose and galactose. Can the estrogens in dairy products affect men’s reproductive biology? Curing Cramps and Premenstrual Syndrome . What role does estrogen play in the menstrual cycle?
