Here is a first closeup look at the new line of Heritage Fly Tying hooks by Mustad. Mustad has rolled out a series of hooks based on old styles but with brand new coatings - the Titan X coating, and with a new barb taper called the Alpha Point. I would have been perfectly happy with a good supply of the old hooks, but every so often Mustad makes a move and this is one that is pretty important if you like tying flies on good saltwater hooks. These hooks are so new, they are so new I have yet to stick a fish with them. I am sure someone else has, but at this point I am running through my remaining inventory FIRST to satisfy the demands of Los Pescadores in Port Isabel, Texas. THEN, I will start in on these! The finish - Titan X coating - reminds me of teflon, yeah, that kind of non-stick teflon. The fact that it has any texture at all gives me all kinds of doubts. Then there's the new microscopic barb - AlphaPoint. Again I am left wondering just what they are thinking at Mustad, but maybe you can tell me! I know it will be easier to get out of people's ears, arms and backs, but so what! Fly fishing comes with a little human sacrifice doesn't it? ______________ I have been dying to try the series of UV Resins by LOON, and finally got my hands on a few colors. I can tell you that they came out just like I hoped they would. It looks like pigment floating in the resin. That means they are translucent, but with color. To my way of thinking that is awesome! _______________ 0:03:50 - LOON UV RESINS
