RARE AUDIO: John Bonham playing in the Pre Zepp era with Tim Rose! You don’t have to have a bionic ear, or know a lot about Bonham, not even a Bonham Geek at the level of George Fulda's to recognize that this gentleman who plays here, is the very John Henry Bonham! It is something notorious, it is felt, it is perceived, Bonham was only one, his sound was already unique, and his style was just beginning to form from those days where he was barely 20 years old. Just hear his typical and historical drum fill of "Good Times Bad Times", which here is more than notorious, and if you look closely, this magnificent excerpt looks like a pre-Zeppelin version of "Good Times Bad Times", something that could perfectly indicate that John had great participation in what was the creation of one of the most mythical and important themes in the history of rock. All the credits of this video go to @georgefludas for having made public these "bits" of history of the music and the drums, which I had never heard before, and allowed me to know how our idol played before joining what was the most important band in history. Literally, we’re hearing the reason of why Jimmy Page was stunned to hear Bonzo the day that Plant took him to see him (Bonzo) play with Tim Rose, and why Peter Grant sent him about 40 telegrams to join Led Zeppelin. This is some very rare audio of Tim Rose from an alleged BBC performance on John Peel's show. The date is given as recorded on July 1, 1968, and broadcast on July 7. As far as I know, there is no other known recording of Bonzo with Tim Rose, nor are there any photos that I could find of Bonzo playing with Tim Rose. Apparently, he only played with him for a brief time in mid 1968. There is a video here on YouTube that is also from BBC broadcasts of Tim Rose, but that does not sound like Bonzo on drums, to me. This recording however is unquestionably Bonzo, IMO. Here is a link to the website where I found it, and the complete audio. https://pastdaily.com/2020/04/12/tim-... =============================== I found this on Archive.org. Wow. John Henry Bonham "Bonzo", before Led Zeppelin. What you are listening to now is the first two bars. I have looped it so you can hear him while I explain a little about the session. Afterwards I will let it play in full. On screen you will see a screen shot of the page where I found it. Below you can find the links. This is session 4, recorded on July 1, 1968, for John Peel and Top Gear at BBC Radio 1 - broadcast July 7, 1968 – BBC Radio 1. In the comments let me know if there is anyone else you would like to see or hear. Coming from the day when there was only AM radio and only 3 stations on TV. I find myself living in an amazing time in history. You can find just about show or session online. In the day we would only hear about this stuff thru word of mouth.
