The Samaria Gorge is a truly breathtaking hike to do one day in your life! You will need to plan it carefully - take proper hiking boots, and beware that once you enter you are pretty much cut off and in the wilderness. When you reach the bottom there is a small village that is itself cut off from the rest of the island and you need to leave by ferry. You must plan your transport into the White Mountains, and your exit at the bottom, but this can all be arranged through an excursion company. You will need a water bottle! But it can be refilled at many natural springs throughout the gorge. The hike takes 6-7 hours, allowing for time to take pictures, dip your feet in the beautiful mountain stream and take in the natural beauty that this true paradise offers. It is simply breathtaking and something I recommend to anyone able bodied! Many come to Crete just to hike this amazing gorge!
