The much-heralded "world's highest and longest" glass-bottomed bridge has opened to visitors in central China. It connects two mountain cliffs in what are known as the Avatar mountains (the film was shot here) in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province. Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge is the world's longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge spanning over two mountains in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. This is the world's longest, highest, pedestrian glass bridge – and it has a deck just 60 centimetres thick. But don't worry: even though it hangs 300 metres above the Zhangjiajie National Park in the Hunan province of southern China, the 375-metre-long construction is deemed perfectly safe to walk across. The bridge was designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan. To build the bridge, engineers erected 4 support pillars on the edges of the walls of the canyon. The bridgeis made of a metal frame with more than 120 glass panels. Each of these panels is 3-layered and is a 2-inch-thick slab of tempered glass.
