Episode 496 Annie (Doris Speed) assists Lucille (Jennifer Moss) in transforming her bedroom into a bedsitter. Lucille seeks a new job so she can leave Mitchell's. David (Alan Rothwell) doesn't wish to live on the street after marriage. Elsie (Pat Phoenix) feels frustrated without a man in her life. Hilda (Jean Alexander) dreads Irma (Sandra Gough) moving away, fearing she'll never see her again. David assures Stan (Bernard Youens) he'll oppose any big wedding plans. Jack (Arthur Leslie) offers Jerry (Graham Haberfield) double time to install shelves for Lucille. Irma agrees to manage the Rovers while Jack treats Annie to an evening out in Wilmslow, appreciating her efforts with Lucille. Annie is impressed by the "Fox and Hounds" bar and restaurant. Hilda suspects David is embarrassed by her and Stan because he never stays for tea at No.13. Charlie (Gordon Rollings) informs Elsie that Ena (Violet Carson) has written to Minnie (Margot Bryant) to say she will return in a fortnight. Annie enjoys overhearing the affluent patrons at the Fox and Hounds, including accountant Robert Maxwell (Donald Hewlett), and learning about their lives.
