On March 7, 2025, the Latvian Institute of International Affairs, in cooperation with the Bertelsmann Foundation, successfully hosted online discussion: "Artificial Intelligence in the Media: A Tool for Shaping Public Perception of U.S. Foreign Policy." This event marked the launch of LIIA’s participation in the "Transatlantic Periscope" project, an initiative led by the Bertelsmann Foundation. The Transatlantic Periscope is an interactive platform providing in-depth analyses, data visualizations, and multimedia content to enhance understanding of U.S. relations with each European Union member state and the United Kingdom. The event featured insightful contributions from prominent experts: Opening Speech: Dr. Kārlis Bukovskis, Director of the Latvian Institute of International Affairs. Introduction to the Transatlantic Periscope: Tony Silberfeld, Director of Transatlantic Relations at the Bertelsmann Foundation. 🔹 Panel Discussion: Gundars Kuļikovskis, Founder & CEO of "Zippy Vision." Uģis Lībietis, Head of the News Department at Latvian Radio, Researcher at LIIA. Anya Schiffrin, Director of the Technology, Media, and Communications specialization at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. Moderator: Inga Spriņģe, Co-founder and investigative journalist at The Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism "Re:Baltica." The event provided a dynamic and engaging discussion on the intersection of AI, media, and foreign policy. Participants gained valuable insights into how AI-driven social media content influences public opinion on U.S.-Latvia relations.
