On one hand, a massive uproar has erupted over a statement made by the Sambhal Circle Officer (CO), with opposition parties cornering the police and the administration over allegations that a specific religious community is being targeted. Amidst all this, a fresh controversy arose when an order was issued to limit the number of worshippers allowed to offer Namaz (prayers) inside mosques. Consequently, the matter reached the courts. A petition was filed by Munazir Khan, naming the UP government, as well as the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sambhal, as respondents. The High Court's scathing observations—and the manner in which it reprimanded the Sambhal SP and DM—have become a subject of widespread discussion. While the Court struck down the order limiting the number of worshippers allowed for *Namaz*, it simultaneously delivered a stern lesson in administrative governance to the police and the administration. A Division Bench comprising Justice Siddharth Nandan and Justice Atul Sreedharan made sharp observations, stating that it is the duty of the administration to maintain law and order under all circumstances.
