Baro , Sonathi Baro & Family The Bodos, are a tribal community residing in the states of Assam, West Bengal in Indian and are also found in neighbouring countries of Nepal and Bangladesh. Bathouism, is the animistic religion followed by majority of the community members. The five elements of Nature- air, water, fire, land and sky are celebrated which is a testimony of its interconnectedness to Nature since time immemorial. The Cactus Euphorbia splendens called in the indigenous tongue as Sijou. The Sijou plant is planted on an elevated altar, often in the north-eastern corner of a Bodo household, surrounded by a circular bamboo fence. The Dewri (priest) invokes the god, Bathou Bwrai, to seek his blessings for the family. This elaborate ceremony is attended by the household and open for any village members.
