Coggins’ first book, "Power Politics and State Formation in the 20th Century: The Dynamics of Recognition" (Cambridge 2014), explored the international politics of diplomatic recognition during secession and its implications for state capacity. Other works appear in scholarly and policy outlets including Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, International Organization, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, and Review of International Organizations. Professor Coggins is also engaged in U.S. policy towards Northeast Asia.
