Coastal GasLink - Cable Crane Hill Dismantlement

The iconic Cable Crane that once towered high across a coastal mountain range in Coastal GasLink’s Section 8 West has now been safely and successfully dismantled. Constructed over two years, this engineering marvel used a gondola-like structure to transport equipment, people and materials up steep terrain. By project completion, the Cable Crane successfully transported 1,400-metres of pipe up an elevation change of 700-metres as well as the equipment and materials required to install the pipe and reclaim the slope. As part of our commitment to reclaim the right-of-way, a dedicated team worked to safely plan and execute the dismantlement of the Cable Crane. In September 2024, the final piece of the Cable Crane was safely removed, marking a historic moment for the project.
