Model Airplane Event

A first-time Special Recreation Permit took place at Jean Dry Lake -- the Free Flight Model Airplane Contest. The event featured multiple model airplane classes but is limited to gliders, rubber band powered and small glow-engine powered model airplanes. The Las Vegas Field Office manages almost 50 Special Recreation Permits a year. These permits are issued to businesses, organizations and individuals to allow the use of specific public land for commercial, competitive and organized group use. These events on public lands range from off-highway vehicle races to model airplane festivals such as this to endurance races. There is something for everyone.
