Here is something fascinating that I witnessed for the first time ever: a concept called railcar kicking, which is similar to something I also just learned called rail humping, where railcars are released loose and eventually couple into another railcar forming a new train or line of railcars. Apparently this is a method to sort railcars that is sometimes used. In the first video, you can hear that I thought a railcar had broken loose from a train that was being moved around the rail yard. I then shared the video with fellow railfanners who quickly explained that I was witnessing railcar kicking. From Google: "Humping," and "railcar kicking" in railroad jargon, means to couple railroad cars together by slamming them into one another at low speed. This was filmed at the CN yard in Southwest, Montreal on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at approximately 5:15 pm Eastern. ----- Remember to hit the like button 👍, subscribe ✅ and turn on the notification bell 🔔
