Taikun Zamuza, back in the day when Frontier was still running in 2018, was voted by its playerbase as their number one favorite monster in the game. Interestingly, while you see talk about Frontier online (mainly from people who haven't played the game), you never see talks about this particular monster. Usually the Zeniths or some Elders will be the focus point of discussion. Taikun Zamuza is a very unique monster and fight. It's a Carapaceon that lives deep in the Tide Island's cavernous network and lives in symbiosis with a species of fungus. When you meet Taikun Zamuza, it is completely covered in dirt, rocks and various flora, including the fungus. The whole fight is something truly unique and rarely seen in Monster Hunter. To reveal Taikun Zamuza's various forms, hunters need to break its armors progressively. The first layer is composed of the fungus, which will explode into large spore clouds that camouflage the Carapaceon. The second one is the layer of dirt and rocks ; once a certain number of parts of its true, orange shell are revealed upon breaking some of that layer, the Taikun Zamuza will get angered and brutally slam the floor and send down with it hunters into a deeper... layer, of the cavern. In this phase, the Carapaceon will progressively start moving faster, as its rocky armor gets destroyed further. Taikun Zamuza actually reaches fast speeds upon being uncovered completely, and the lower weight allows it to leap in the air similarly to Daimyo Hermitaur in order to crush foes. The part-breaking doesn't stop there however, as it is possible for hunters to break every single part of its orange exoskeleton. When all parts are broken, the Taikun Zamuza feels threatened enough that it repeats the floor busting process to send hunters down to the lowest parts of the cavern, while simultaneously completely destroying its own shell. This reveals not exactly what I would call the "true" form of the Taikun Zamuza, but simply its fleshy body hidden under all that protective armor all along. The Carapaceon looks completely different, with white and blue colors, a pair of eyes, its Hammer claw turns out to be a bending, piercing claw, and electrical organs located on its back. In this state, Taikun Zamuza moves even faster and is even more aggressive, and is capable of digging through rock to attack hunters, or produce electricity with the "pole" of its claws to unleash electrical charges at hunters. This desperate measure of parting with its armor in order to use all its latent abilities and speed seems to be what some individuals of the species resort to when they are cornered. Taikun Zamuza is a complex and layered (in all forms, its body, and the area) fight that's truly unique, with Dark Souls-esque phase changes. What's really amazing however, is that the fight does not have to go like I described, or how you will see it in this video ; this is where things get interesting. Indeed, it is entirely possible to kill a Taikun Zamuza without bothering to properly break off its armors in order to reach the next phases of its fight. However, each phase also grants players different materials needed for crafting its equipment, reflecting the appearance changes that the monster goes through. I really, really like to imagine what incredible surprise it must have been for the players at the time to discover and exchange information about how to progress the fight. I can't imagine that the first time a group fought a Taikun Zamuza, they killed it without reaching the second phase ; but it could've been possible ; and discovering the different phases of the fight must be what players really loved about it. A player could've been confused on how to obtain the blue coloured materials needed to craft some equipment, which are only available if you manage to reach the third phase without killing it too fast. This run was recorded on my HR6 character, with rank-appropriate gear, similar to my recent Gureadomos run, which is why it's a somewhat long fight, and you won't see Extreme Style Hammer. This fight is actually fairly difficult that way, and recording a run where I wouldn't get hit once by this monster was near impossible without being extremely cautious.
