My submission to the 2017 Hit Like A Girl contest. Personal Biography: I started playing the drums when I was 10 years old which means that I've now been playing for a little over 13 years. From 5th grade all the way through my senior year of high school, I participated in concert, marching, and jazz bands where I was often the only girl on the drumline. This had some perks but also some drawbacks as well. I quickly began to realize just how insecure I was about my ability to play the drums once I was out of high school and had offers to play with friends and I think a lot of that is due in part to the fact the girl drummers are a bit out of the norm. I felt that pressure weighing on me during my years on the drumline in school and it carried over with me more than I realized once I was out. It's been a few years, and I've taken some steps to help further conquer the inadequacy I feel while playing drums in front of people - entering this contest being one of them. I believe it's good to get out of your comfort zone sometimes, which is predominantly the reason why I entered this contest. In addition to being involved in concert, marching, and jazz band throughout my time in school, a lot of what I learned in regards to drumming, I picked up from my dad who is a drummer as well. Him and I have spent countless hours playing the drums together while growing up, and often playing the Goo Goo Dolls in particular. With that said, I decided to submit a drum cover of Slide by the Goo Goo Dolls in recognition to all that he has taught me. The set I currently play (shown in the video), is my dad's first set that he started playing when he was 17 years old. About 30 years later, I am now playing it, carrying on the legacy and love for music that my dad has held with him for so many years.
