Day 311 #PandaStory: Xiao Qi Ji and Mei Xiang spent most of the night apart, him in the den, and Mei in the bedroom. Around 5:45am Mei Xiang came out of the bedroom and headed into room 3 where she bleated before disappearing into the den. Shortly after we hear their vocalizations in the den before they appear and head toward the playpen where Qi Ji nursed. (A huge thank you to my panda friend Cyndy T. who recorded the beginning of the nursing bout using room 3's audio as I only had room 2's, so thanks to her we can now all hear clearly the sweet vocalizations between the two of them.) After the nursing bout, Mei Xiang upended Qi Ji, and he wound up sliding down to a sitting position by the rockwork, after which he got swiffered by Mei and they played a bit. (Audio at the beginning and end of video) Around 10:15am Mei Xiang was in the bedroom napping on the platform when Qi Ji made a couple of appearances. This was an absolute treat to see because we seldom have seen them in the bedroom, but you can often hear them playing in there or the den! For whatever reason, Qi Ji loves to throw his body at Mei's, as well as bite her fur when he's not investigating the treat window. Play escalated and Mei started participating ... you can see her clamp down on his paw or a hunk of his fur and just hold on. Qi Ji does the same, only he'll put any part of her in his mouth and shake, shake, shake his head. Around 1:30pm we see Qi Ji thoroughly enjoying an apple slice, but whoops, he drops it, only to discover what looked like another piece in the playpen. After checking the wall window boxes, and doing some door walking, Qi Ji wiggles his body against the door, and eventually settles down for his afternoon nap just after 2pm.
