When Lars Romig took a group of us up to check out this slickrock bowl that he wanted to ride in 2019, we all thought he was a crazy person. The original line is basically a 60ft vertical cliff, separated by 3 rollers, with zero margin for error. We were in shock when Lars guinea pigged the line he had been dreaming of for a few years, barely holding it together on the runout. Mountain biking changed in Sedona on that day. A year later, we went back and I filmed Lars riding this for a followcamfriday episode titled "Sedona's Steepest Line". In the following years, Lars walked the line with the local Forest Service and proposed it be added to the trail system. We were all in disbelief when permission was granted and digging could begin 2024. Sedona has a multitude of trails for all abilities but the the expert crowd, looking for progressive trails to challenge and inspire, was slightly underserved outside of the HHH experience. Hardline is now the most technical trail in Sedona in my humble opinion. A bench was carved into the rock to traverse across the original line that Lars rode so that is was safer for the average expert rider but the original line is still there and fully rideable. Please approach with the respect it deserves. The irony in all of this is that Lars works for the Sedona fire department, and Lars will be first on scene if you need rescue. Job security. Thanks Lars. When Lars had this idea 9 years ago, his son Ronin was 7 years old. To follow Ronin down this now, following his dad for the first top to bottom lap, was truly an honor to witness in person. Lars gets the "rad dad" award and the legacy continues. Wu-tang is for the children. This is an amazing example of what can be accomplished when the local Mountain Bike community develops and fosters lasting relationships with land management. This is the new benchmark and everyone involved has helped move the needle of what is possible in our sport. Huge thanks to the USFS, Summit To Sea Trails, The Red Rock Trail Crew, Verde Valley Cyclist Coalition, the Sedona Red Rock Trail Fund, and all of the volunteers that put an amazing amount of work and passion into creating this legacy trail. It takes a village, and the village in Sedona has created something very special. This is the way forward. #followcamfriday #sedona #mtb #trailbuilding
