At SID Display Week 2025 in San Jose, Porotech introduced the One-Stop AR Solution Alliance, a vertically integrated chain spanning GaN-on-Si wafers, microLED engines, waveguides, system design, and Foxconn volume manufacturing. By partnering with Rayprus, GIS, Jorjin, and Cellid, the group offers OEMs a unified path from epitaxy to finished AR glasses, compressing development cycles and de-risking supply. The official company website is https://porotech.com --- Thanks to SEL Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co., Ltd. https://www.sel.co.jp/en/ for being my Display Week 2025 sponsor. SEL debuts Crystal IO: low-power, high-res OLED & microdisplay tech for AR/VR with foveated rendering at Display Week 2025: • SEL shows Crystal IO: Low power OLED drive... --- Porotech’s 8-inch GaN-on-silicon platform leads the initiative. The company demonstrated full-wafer porous-GaN epitaxy with uniformity above 97 percent and a record 1.25 micrometer pixel pitch—equivalent to more than 4000 ppi—for monolithic microdisplays. Using hybrid-bond interconnects, their process maintains less than 1 percent warpage and supports sub-micron alignment, allowing for reliable singulation of pixels under 3 micrometers, crucial for near-eye optics. The newly introduced SpectraCore red emitters close the full-color gap in microLED. They deliver five times the luminance of conventional AlInGaP devices, a spectral width under 8 nanometers, and maintain wavelength stability within 0.5 nanometers from 0 to 5 milliamps. This removes the need for active color compensation and enables native RGB without quantum dot conversion. SpectraCore is scheduled for mass production in Q3 2025. Rayprus provides the light engine, a compact 0.13-inch microdisplay module currently sampling at 640 by 480 for monochrome and 320 by 240 for early full-color versions. The current design uses chip-on-board packaging, with future plans for flip-chip integration to reduce engine height by 50 percent and improve thermal contact through a direct heat path. The module reaches peak brightness of 500,000 nits and supports multiple digital interfaces including MIPI and SPI. GIS manufactures the waveguide optics, delivering a 25-degree field of view with 92 percent transparency and high modulation transfer. Using master molds from Cellid, their surface-relief gratings and holographic optical elements maintain color uniformity and eye-box consistency. A prism-based coupler design reduces pupil swim and chromatic aberration, resulting in clearer projected imagery across a wide viewing zone. Jorjin handles system integration, combining electronics and mechanical design. Their solution features a 6-layer rigid-flex PCB, dual inertial sensors, beam-forming microphones, and a 3.2 tera-operations-per-second AI processor, all housed in a 27 gram frame. The system runs below 1.2 watts, offering up to four hours of operation on a hot-swappable 200 milliamp-hour battery embedded in the temple arm, with extended runtime options for industrial use cases. Foxconn provides the manufacturing backbone, with initial pilot lines in Tainan capable of producing up to one million units per year and scaling to five million by 2026. Tight coordination across the alliance ensures class 2 manufacturing standards and synchronized design-for-manufacture guidelines, enabling the alliance to target monochrome production by September 2025 and full-color by early 2026. The resulting reference glasses are designed for real-world AR applications. AI voice guidance is paired with visual cues—such as arrows or contextual data—displayed in the lens, creating a seamless user experience. High brightness and clarity make it usable outdoors. Looking forward, the alliance roadmap includes binocular 4K displays using x-cube architectures and SpectraCore RGB, enabling applications in automotive HUDs and advanced mixed reality wearables with sub-arcminute resolution and HDR-level luminance.
