[BIRDFEED EXCLUSIVE] Out of San Francisco, Late Eighties' newest release "Abba Zabba" is on this week's feed! How long have you been creating music? In some shape or form for about 16 years, my dad got me a drum set when I was 12 and I've been making noise ever since. What do you use to make your tracks? Mainly Pro Tools, sometimes Ableton for triggering loops and arranging edits but I spend 95% of my time in Pro Tools. I'm using Native Instruments, Battery and Massive mostly, and a lot of Waves plugins. For drum samples I've managed to frankenstein together a pretty big library to pull from but one of these days I should probably use Splice, I've been hearing a lot of good things. How and when did you first discover Dirtybird? A friend out of LA turned me on to Dirtybird sometime between 2013 and 2014 when I was just starting to get my feet wet as a DJ. I started going to the quarterly events at the Mezzanine sometime that year. The Treasure Island BBQ in 2014 was when I really got hooked, the weather was perfect and I danced my ass off. Which Dirtybird artist would you want to collaborate with the most? In the studio, Ardalan -- his productions have so many unique elements and his mixes are clear and dynamic. On the decks, J.Phlip -- I've learned a lot from listening to her play, she is always pushing boundaries. If your entire life was a movie, what title would best describe you? Freak, Pray, Love What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to? Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at Madison Square Garden -- Stevie Nicks made a guest appearance as well. They tore the place down, it was incredible. If you could time travel, where and when would you go? I'd be a recording engineer working in Los Angeles recording studios from the early 1960's into the 1970's -- there were tons of opportunities to contribute to classic recordings and witness legendary talent. What species of bird best describes you and why? Cockatoo - I can dance and I do pretty good impressions What does Dirtybird mean to you? Dirtybird has been a total undercurrent of my life since I first started going to the parties. The records coming out on the label and the records they were playing opened the floodgates for me in terms of house music...it was like the blue pill. Their ethos of fun and inclusivity gave me a feeling freedom without judgement --you can sound how you want to sound and dance however you want to dance and meet a bunch of freaks in the process. Freedom, fun, and family -- that's Dirtybird to me.
