The Nissan Versa has grown up, and it now enjoys better tech and a livelier ride. While more expensive now, the Versa remains an affordable option for cost-conscious shoppers. And now it also includes improved technology, safety, and handling. The engine has improved as well. The 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine now makes 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. Routed through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 5-speed manual in S trim, the Versa’s engine provides enough power to get this little car up to speed, but it makes a lot of noise. Rear-seat space has been cut by six inches, but the trunk remains competitive at 15 cubic feet, and the front seats provide plenty of room. This would be a good commuter car, but maybe not a great rideshare vehicle. On the bright side, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered on the Versa SV and SR. Safety tech abounds, too. While advanced safety systems do add to the Versa’s potential repair costs, it’s still good to see them available on such an inexpensive model. Pricing for the 2020 Versa starts at $14,730 for an S trim. The SV starts at $17,640, and the SR starts at $18,240.
