In early August 2023, the city of Lisbon hosted World Youth Day for the first time, welcoming Pope Francis and over one million pilgrims for the biggest Catholic event in the world. Pingo Doce was the founding food partner, serving its fresh food at the main venues and helping prepare the pilgrim kits and more general meal kits. With more than 300 employees providing support to the operation, 400,000 meal kits were donated to the pilgrims and over 22,000 menus were sold.
