We joined the ShapeFuture Consortium in Riga, Latvia, for a closer look at how next-generation mobility is being built from the sensor level up. In this on-site interview, Edgars from EDI (Engineering and Development Institute) walks us through the lab’s work on integrated systems, embedded AI, advanced sensors, and accelerator hardware within the ShapeFuture project. From infrared sensing and LiDAR to Time-of-Flight and cutting-edge event cameras, the team is bridging the gap between perception, hardware abstraction, and real-world autonomous driving applications. As part of the ShapeFuture initiative, EDI is developing sensor technologies and perception algorithms that will be integrated into a self-driving vehicle platform, helping make EVs and ADAS systems safer for both passengers and pedestrians. The discussion also explores EDI’s experience across Chips JU and other EU projects, reusable IP development, FPGA accelerators, and how research is translated into real industrial impact. Watch the full interview to discover how advanced sensors, embedded AI, and hardware acceleration are shaping the future of mobility. #ShapeFuture #AutonomousDriving #SelfDrivingCars #EventCameras #EmbeddedAI #ChipsJU #SmartMobility #EUProjects #Riga #Innovation
