I believe very strongly that you should create boundaries sometimes in order to fuel your creativity. As a music producer in this era, I have just about every single sound at my fingertips, and still I struggle with the direction I should take to fit the music I’m working on. So I called up a producer colleague of mine named Jack, he’s a pop music producer based in the UK. We wanted to collaborate on something that challenged us and made us better producers. What better way to do this than to swap sounds? He gave me a selection of Serum (synth) presets from his free preset pack and then I gave him some of my own. We challenged each other to: Make a song in 1 afternoon Use only sounds from these packs (except for drums, vocals) We both made videos breaking down the tracks we made. Sound design, mixing, modulation - we get in deep. We also talk about how important these kinds of projects are to keeping you creative in the studio. I made a modern UK garage style beat, while jack made a crazy grime banger!
