We left our hotel in Williams, Arizona, and set off for California. On our way to the freeway, we stumbled upon the iconic historic Route 66! Williams is one of the last towns on the Mother Road to be bypassed by the interstate, keeping its nostalgic charm alive. Walking down Route 66 in Williams feels like stepping back in time, with vintage neon signs, classic diners, retro motels, and old cars parked along the streets, many of them decorated to look like characters from Pixar’s Cars movie. The town’s main street is lined with quirky shops selling Route 66 memorabilia, rustic Western-themed restaurants, and even original gas stations from the golden age of American road trips. The Grand Canyon Railway also departs from Williams.
