The "Trans" part of trans fat refers to the configuration of the carbon-carbon double bond in the fatty acid chain. 2. Trans fats do not occur commonly in nature and are mostly a product of hydrogenation by the food industry. 3. They can increase the risk bad cholesterol, coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke. 4. They are commonly found in baked and fried foods.
