Dr. Keith Cruise, in collaboration with the Violence Prevention and Restoration Consortium of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), will explore violence risk and protective factors through a trauma responsive lens. This presentation features a brief look of the Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) Model - the predominant model used to match services to risk and protective factors for adolescents experiencing juvenile justice system involvement while also addressing lessons learned from adolescent’s lived experiences with trauma and their experiences within this system. Attendees will gain an understanding of the complex interplay between adversity, trauma exposure, and trauma responses among youth, particularly those impacted by chronic community violence and traumatic loss. This session aims to provide a holistic perspective on the challenges faced by adolescents within the juvenile justice system and the pathways toward recovery and resilience.
