Kersey Mae Antonio was one of our faithful young people at Crossroads Baptist Church in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, Philippines. She was kind-hearted and friendly. She lost her battle with cancer just a few months after she turned 18. I was able to visit her frequently during the last weeks of her precious life. The night before she passed, I had a talk with her about heaven, and explained why the doctor had directed the family to stop the chemotherapy. I read II Corinthians 12:9-10 to her. I talked to her about God’s grace and how it would be sufficient as she faced the coming hours. She was very weak and only nodded her head for most of our conversation. She did find the energy to tell me how thankful she was that her brother had recently been saved and baptized. Then, when I ask her, if she’s OK, she turned to her a little to her side, lifted her arm as if to flex her muscle and said, “I’m sad, but I’m strong.” I had her give me that little muscle flex one last time when I left the room. The next morning, I received a phone call asking me to come to the house because she was telling everybody goodbye. One by one, she told her family members that she loved them and said goodbye. She greeted some family and friends, who were not present at the time. When she was finished saying goodbye to her family and friends, she said, “I am strong,” and steeped across to heavens shore. I was preparing her funeral sermon when the chorus to this song popped into my head. I was able to sing the chorus as a part of the message. And now we dedicate this song to her family and friends in memory of Kersey on what would have been her 19th birthday. May 28, 2024. A special thanks to Timothy Angels time, support and playing the violin.
