Jack Daniel’s Blind Flight Fight Official Tasting Notes: Jack Daniels 10 Year 4.5: Opens sweet with a smoky caramel and vanilla on the front. Also on the open is some pops of rye notes. The oak builds on the mid-palate like a traditional bourbon, but the charcoal mellowing takes the coarseness of the barrel char down to a more approachable level. The mid is complex and brings in cherry, tobacco, raisins, and coffee. The finish is dry and slightly tannic. Jack Daniel’s Bonded 3.5: Opens very corn forward. The opening is also joined with sweet vanilla yogurt. The mid introduces some honey and charcoal mellowed oak…big surprise. The mid also brings in a very subtle peach note that gives a nice complexity to the pour. The finish balances out with some nutmeg spice. Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack 2.5: Very light-bodied almost to the point where it has lost all character. Very similar to Old No. 7; heavy banana and vanilla, but you don’t have any spice or bitterness here. The “smoothness” seems to translate to a more buttery profile. The second charcoal-mellowing seems to have successfully accomplished its mission for a smoother whiskey than the original and while it may have removed some of the imperfections and imbalances it comes at a cost to flavor boldness. Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 “Black Label” – Legacy Edition 2.0: Banana and vanilla open the palate and carry throughout. Slightly bitter notes reminiscent of walnut shell build into the profile. Slight touches of cinnamon, but buried deep. Light-bodied and thin.
