Sometimes maths describes abstract and fantastical ideas that are so foreign to our everyday lives. But other times it struggles to describe the normal. The Fields medal for 2022 was awarded for describing something that is a daily task for many of us - Brewing Coffee [1,2]. The idea of describing percolation [3], the mechanism of water moving through a porous material, isn’t new and has been an open question for a long time. With this new understanding of how graph theory can be used to describe these coffee brewing and other percolation systems, we hope to generate a better understanding of how water and gases are interesting with these interesting materials.
